Dr med. Andreas Lenich a specialist in shoulder and elbow surgery / sports traumatology and Chief Physician of the Clinic for Orthopaedics, Traumatology, Hand Surgery, and Sports Orthopaedics at Helios Clinic Munich West
Everything in the hands of a specialist – traumatology and orthopaedics under a single roof
The total area of traumatology and surgical orthopaedics is covered by Dr Lenich and his colleagues at Helios Clinic Munich West. The main focus of Dr Lenich is elbow and shoulder surgery. Prostheses of the knee and hip joint are also regularly implanted at Helios Clinic Munich West. Dr Lenich also specialises in arthroscopic or sports orthopaedic procedures.
Thanks to departments for hand surgery, spine treatment, endoprosthetics and pain therapy, and physiotherapy in the clinic, all problems of the musculoskeletal system can be handled by specialists under the direction of Dr Lenich.
The Helios Clinic in Munich West has over 400 beds. In addition to traumatology and orthopaedics, eight specialist departments are combined under one roof. Because of its expertise, the clinic is also the teaching hospital of the Ludwig Maximilian University.
Specialist in elbow and shoulder diseases
In the supraregional centre for special elbow surgery at Helios Clinic Munich West, the nationally and internationally recognised elbow and school specialist offers the entire spectrum of arthroscopic and open elbow surgery. Because of the specialization in the field of sports traumatology, the treatment of sports injuries is a high priority.
Above all, because of its anatomical features, the human shoulder joint is characterised by its enormous mobility. In humans, the shoulder joint is the one with the widest range of motion. To make this possible, the joint is primarily stabilised by muscles and ligaments in combination with a small bone guide and a very loose joint capsule. This particular anatomy also entails a high risk of dislocation. Especially in sports or in the case of falls, ligaments, cartilage, or muscle can be easily damaged. These changes can be treated either surgically or conservatively (through intensive physiotherapy and exercise). When deciding on a treatment, the wishes and ideas of the patient must be at the forefront.
Therapy planning and, if necessary, the implementation of the surgical procedure is another speciality of Dr Lenich.
After the shoulder joint, the elbow joint is most frequently affected by dislocations. Also in this joint, the painless and complete mobility is also essential for proper functioning in everyday life.
Interdisciplinary coordination of traumatological care
In the surgical department under Dr Lenich, acute injuries and chronic changes of the supporting apparatus and musculoskeletal system are treated. For Dr Lenich and his colleagues, painless mobility and thus the long-term, high quality of life of patients are the first priority. They therefore work closely with the clinic team of long-standing physiotherapists in order to make the best possible use of the therapeutic possibilities.
