About

Dr Reza Ghotbi MD is a specialist for vascular surgery and chief physician of the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the HELIOS Clinic in Munich West.

Under the direction of Dr Ghotbi, the Vascular Surgery Clinic diagnoses and treats diseases of the entire arterial and venous system.

One step ahead of stroke

With advanced age, calcification of the arteries leads to constriction and thus to the diminished perfusion of the peripheral tissues. In the case of constriction (stenosis) of the carotid artery, a reduced supply of the brain can lead to a stroke. In one half of all cases, this occurs without prior symptoms.  However, stenosis of the carotid artery can be readily treated by vascular surgeons using various techniques.

Aneurysms are diseased occlusions of the vascular wall. Within these occlusions, the normal flow direction of the blood is disrupted. This can lead to turbulence and stagnation of the blood. This can form clots within the vessels, which, in turn, can prevent the supply of blood to tissues. This can result in a stroke or pulmonary embolism (vascular occlusion in the lungs) with potentially fatal consequences. In order to prevent these sequelae and tearing of the vascular occlusion (aneurysm), these can be surgically treated by Dr Ghotbi and his colleagues.

Dr Ghotbi will help you back on your feet

Arterial occlusive disease (peripheral arterial occlusive disease, PAOD, Charcot’s syndrome) is characterised by constrictions or occlusions of the femoral and pelvic arteries. Diabetes mellitus, smoking, or hypertension often lead to this disease. Patients complain of pain in the legs – initially only under strain and later also at rest. The chronic insufficient supply of the leg tissue increases the risk of necrosis and possibly the loss of the affected limb. In the vascular surgery clinic, an individual therapeutic plan will be created.

Varicose veins are extensions of the superficial veins, which do not initially invoke symptoms. As the disease progresses, it can lead to pain, swelling of the leg, and ulceration. Dr Ghotbi can surgically repair these painful varicose veins surgically using a minimally invasive technique (VNUS closure).

Personal care with superior quality

The Vascular Surgery Clinic of the HELIOS Clinic in Munich West also shows its first-class quality in public quality indicators. For example, the mortality rate in vascular operations performed by Dr Ghotbi and his team is far below the average. This indicates an above-average treatment quality.
