About Prof. Dr Uwe Andreas Ulrich
Gynecologist Prof. Dr med. Uwe Andreas Ulrich is head physician at the Clinic for Gynaecology and Manager of the Gynaecological Cancer Centre and the Endometriosis Centre at the Martin Luther Hospital in Berlin.
Gynaecological cancer illnesses include malignant tumours in the pubic area (vulva carcinoma), the vagina (vaginal carcinoma), the ovaries (ovarian cancer), the cervix (cervical cancer), and the endometrium (endometrial cancer).
The Gynaeological Cancer Centre and the Breast Centre have both already been certified multiple times by the German Cancer Association (OnkoCert) and offer patients the security of treatment to the latest standards. The clinic has all required diagnostic options including magnetic resonance tomography.
In addition to surgical treatment, radiotherapy, including brachytherapy, has been established. If desired, all patients receive psycho-oncological care, which also takes into consideration the social and family environment.
To continue improving early detection and treatment of tumor illnesses in women, the Gynaecological Cancer Centre works interdisiplinarily: the expertise and collaboration of specialists from different areas guarantees a wholistic treatment. An individually matched therapy concept is determined at regular tumour conferences.
Another focus of the clinic is a diagnostic and therapy for endometriosis. Endometrosis is to be understood as the occurrence of cervical lining type tissue outside of the cervix. There are approx. 40,000 women in Germany diagnosed for the first time each year. Symptoms include painful periods and chronic lower abdomen pain. In addition, endometriosis is often associated with the unfulfilled desire for children. In the Endometriosis Centre on level III in the Martin Luther hospital, treatment is done by specially trained doctors. In the foreground is surgical removal of the endometriosis lesions. This is generally done with laparoscopy.
Prof. Ulrich, aside from his clinical work, is also the author and reviewer for medical journals. He is a member of numerous scientific associations.
The Martin Luther Hospital in Berlin has existed since 1931. It provides service, as an acute and accident care hospital, to national and international patients in many specialties. It houses clinics for Accident Surgery and Orthopedics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Newborn Medicine, General Blood Vessel and Visceral Surgery, Anaesthetics and Surgical Intensive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic and Hand-Surgery, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
The Martin Luther Hospital Berlin has, among other things, been distinguished by the Techniker Health Insurance company with an award for its exceptional patient satisfaction, and has been a certified pain-free clinic since 2011. Free WLAN is available to all patients and guests everywhere in the building.
