About Univ.-Prof. Dr Andrea Meurer
Prof. Dr Andrea Meurer is a specialist in endoprosthetics, head of the certified maximum care Endoprosthetics Centre, and director of the Clinic for Orthopaedics (Friedrichsheim) at the Frankfurt University Hospital.
In order to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and long-term quality of results, the guiding principle of Prof. Dr Meurer and her team is to guarantee the best possible therapy at the highest level of quality for every patient. One of the centre’s special areas of expertise is joint replacement in patients with anatomical peculiarities.
Clinic for Orthopedics (Friedrichsheim) at the Frankfurt University Hospital: Renowned Specialist Clinic in Europe
The Orthopaedic Clinic (Friedrichsheim) at the Frankfurt University Hospital under direction of Clinic Director Prof. Dr Meurer is one of the most renowned specialist clinics all over Germany and Europe. The orthopaedic special clinic of certified maximum care includes the following service areas: Endoprosthetics Center and spinal specialist center of the DWG, paediatric orthopaedics, shoulder orthopaedics, sports orthopaedics, foot surgery, spinal orthopaedics, and tumour orthopaedics. The clinic employs 270 employees who care for about 4,000 inpatients and more than 17,000 outpatients every year. The philosophy of the orthopaedic specialist clinic includes the use of individual therapy procedures to place as little strain as possible on the patients, to accelerate regeneration, and to achieve lasting treatment success which in return significantly improving quality of life.
Certified Maximum Care Endoprosthetics Centre in Frankfurt
The Endoprosthetics Centre is one of the leading clinics throughout Germany. It has been designated a “maximum care center” since 2012. In addition to high quality standards and a high number of elective endoprostheses a year, this certificate also requires a 24-hour on-call surgical service.
For diagnostics, which are essential for optimal therapy planning, the center has a digital EOS X-ray machine which can produce 3D images of the skeleton and thus be used for precise surgery planning and endoprosthesis interventions.
Professor Andrea Meurer and her team possess a wealth of experience in the implantation of artificial joint replacements. Prostheses can be implanted for almost all joints and latest state of developments are followed. After detailed diagnostics, individual planning takes place in order to achieve optimal treatment results for each patient. In addition to the implantation of new joints, replacement operations in the event of prosthesis loosening and infection are performed with greatest care as well at the Endoprosthetics Centre of the Frankfurt University Hospital Orthopaedics Clinic (Friedrichsheim).
Total Hip Endoprosthesis: Hip TEP Using Latest Surgical Techniques
One of Prof. Meurer's specialisations is hip replacement (hip TEP). The likelihood of degenerative cartilage wear between the femoral head and the acetabulum – so-called hip arthrosis – increases with age and is one of the most frequent indications for hip surgery.
Under the direction of Prof. Meurer, this procedure is carried out using the latest surgical techniques and high-quality prosthesis materials, which provide most patients with years of mobility while reducing pain at the same time.
When it comes to these custom-planned prostheses, you can choose between a short-stem prosthesis, a cementless titanium cup/stem or a cementable stem, among many others.
Specialist in Paediatric Orthopaedics
A further focus of the clinic is placed on paediatric orthopaedics, which is primarily concerned with the early detection and prophylaxis of diseases of the musculoskeletal system responsible for posture and movement.
With state-of-the-art diagnostics using MRI, EOS, sonography, bone density measurement and motion analysis, possible childhood illnesses can be precisely diagnosed and individual therapy be planned.
In addition to the treatment of congenital malalignments, the team at the Orthopaedic University Hospital focuses in particular on the treatment of hip dysplasia, foot malalignments, axial deformities, and Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.
The emphasis here is placed on a gentle, low-stress therapy concept which requires a high degree of empathy towards young patients and their parents in addition to much experience by the treating physicians.

Information About Frankfurt
Frankfurt is one of the most important financial centres in Germany and Europe. With its skyscrapers unique in Europe, Frankfurt rises above the Main on an area of approximately 243 square kilometres and at its centre accommodates about 700.000 inhabitants. Frankfurt was officially mentioned for the first time in 794 and played a decisive role during the imperial age. Much of the city was destroyed by bombing in World War II by the Allies. The historic old town, however, is preserved, just as its culturally important role in Europe. Today the old town is a tourist magnet that repeatedly attracts visitors from all over the world.
