About Prof. Dr Hüseyin Ince
Prof. Dr Hüseyin Ince is a specialist in cardiology and head of the Department of Internal Medicine – Cardiology and Conservative Intensive Care Medicine at the Vivantes Urban Hospital in Berlin. He is one of the leading heart specialists in Berlin.
The team working with Prof. Ince treats all cardiological diseases at the highest level in line with current medical guidelines. The special area of focus of the interventional department in Berlin is the treatment of valvular heart disease as well as therapy of cardiac arrhythmia.
Vivantes Department of Cardiology: Specialists in Interventional Cardiology in Berlin
With 7 cardiac catheter laboratories, the Vivantes Department of Cardiology is the largest interventional cardiology department in Berlin. With 225 beds for heart patients, the Department is the largest cardiology unit in Berlin. The department ranks among the top 10 of the largest cardiology clinics in Germany.
Catheter Ablation for Cardiac Arrhythmias
Prof. Ince and his team dispose of many years of experience performing catheter ablation therapy in addition to drug treatment to cure cardiac arrhythmia. Latest high-resolution 3D mapping technologies, cryoablation, and laser-assisted ablation procedures are applied for these measures at the Berlin Heart Rhythm Centre. Approximately 1500 ablations, 1000 of which are for atrial fibrillation, are performed there annually. Prof. Ince and his colleagues also possess many years of experience in the implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators (ICDs). Every year, about 400 pacemakers and defibrillators are implanted.
In the field of coronary heart diseases (angina pectoris, heart attack), all types of coronary vasoconstriction can be treated at the Vivantes Department applying modern stents and innovative imaging techniques. Each year, about 2500 patients receive a stent (a vascular support) for coronary arteries.
Catheter-assisted Heart Valve Surgeries
Prof. Ince and his team perform catheter-assisted procedures to treat valvular heart disease. With the so-called MitraClip procedure, an insufficient (leaky) heart valve can be treated using a cardiac catheter without the need for an open heart surgery. A TAVI can be used to replace a constricted aortic valve (aortic valve stenosis) by means of a catheterisation procedure. These minimally invasive interventional procedures carry a much lower risk of complication by achieving comparably good results, and have a much shorter recovery time than major valve replacement surgeries. In 2018, 160 MitraClip interventions were performed at the Vivantes Department in Berlin.
Cardiological Intensive Care
To ensure comprehensive and well-integrated treatment, an intensive care unit is available for critically ill patients, offering all modern intensive care options. Among other things, the intensive care unit possesses its own cardiac catheterisation laboratory, which means the utmost possible safety is available for critical patients thanks to short distances. In addition to focusing on cardiology, the department also comprehensively covers other clinical aspects occurring in internal medicine.
Cardiological Consultation Hours at the Clinic ‘Am Urban’
For further detailed clarification of medical findings including possible therapeutic strategies, the Cardiac Clinic at the Vivantes Urban Hospital offers special consultation hours such as at the rhythm clinic, the pacemaker clinic or cardiac insufficiency clinic. During these consultations, findings can be discussed with the cardiology experts. They can then conduct further diagnostics and initiate the next therapeutic steps.
