About Dr Florian Kretz (FEBO)

Dr Florian Kretz (FEBO) is a specialist in ophthalmology, Medical Director of the Rheine and Greven Eye Clinics, and Managing Partner of the Precise Vision Ophthalmologists' group of clinics and practices which is represented in several locations in Germany.

Dr Florian Kretz is an internationally recognized specialist in ophthalmology, a renowned surgeon, sought-after speaker, and respected scientist.

Perfection for Your Eyes

The guiding principles of Dr Kretz and his colleagues include mottos such as “one step ahead of progress” and “precision for your eyes”. His patients, their satisfaction and well-being are always at highest priority to Dr Kretz.

"Vision is our greatest asset – this is why precision comes first in the treatment of our patients"
according to Dr Florian Kretz (FEBO)

In order to always provide the best treatment to his medical clients and to apply the most modern methods, he relies on personal care and individual counselling. In addition, he only uses the latest treatment approaches. All rooms at his practice are equipped with the most current technology. In order to always keep up to date with latest technical progresses and medical research, Dr Florian Kretz regularly engages in instructing, research, and publishing about the most important topics in ophthalmology. He also takes part in all major ophthalmology and surgery congresses across the globe. He not only informs himself about the latest innovations and state-of-the-art technology abroad, but also maintains his collegial network. In addition, he is always a welcome speaker and discussion leader.

Dr Kretz mainly works and performs surgeries at the Rheine and Greven Eye Clinics. In addition, however, he regularly oversees the other Precise Vision locations. All together, he performs several thousand surgeries each year, mainly minimally invasive cataract operations and refractive surgeries to correct visual defects. He also specializes in the treatment of glaucoma, macular diseases, and all forms of ametropia. Various international specialists work alongside Dr Kretz as part of his team who, with their respective specializations, are able to cover almost the entire spectrum of ophthalmology.

Ophthalmology – Speciality ‘on Smallest Spaces’

The most common eye disorders include cataract, glaucoma, macular diseases, retinal afflictions, conditions as a result of diabetes, vascular occlusions, and maladies of the cornea.

Cataract

Cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed surgical interventions in the world. Replacing the clouded natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens results in a significant improvement of a patient's vision. Sometimes, it even means they no longer depend on glasses. The procedure is performed using the micropulse method or femtosecond laser. Both processes are extremely precise, safe, and fast. Plus, they are performed on an outpatient basis. Those techniques are also considered to be the most modern approaches used for cataract surgery. However, choosing the right intraocular lens is also essential for optimal results. For this purpose, Dr Kretz relies on a detailed consultation, because being aware of the demands patients encounter in their everyday life are just as important for choosing the right lens as are the results of preliminary examinations and eye measurements.

Glaucoma

A glaucoma is caused by high intraocular pressure. This damages the optic nerve irreversibly, which, if left untreated, can lead to blindness. The initial treatment method is conservative by using hypotensive eye drops. If this medication proves no longer effective or if the patient starts reacting allergic, he can be helped with the insertion of a stent or by applying a laser treatment. The stent insertion can be combined with a cataract surgery, so only one single procedure will be necessary.

Retinal Diseases

Numerous conditions can occur to the retinal area. Retinal holes can be treated with lasers, while retinal detachments must be attended to surgically immediately. Signs of damage to the retina can be sudden laterally occurring visual light flashes or a multitude of acute black dots.

Help for the Eyes in Case of Diabetes or High Blood Pressure

As diabetes and high blood pressure can cause increasing damage to the eye, it is advisable to have regular check-ups performed by an ophthalmologist.

Intraocular Lenses for Presbyopia

The elasticity of the eye lens decreases with age, which is why most people over 45 years of age develop presbyopia. Affected patients are no longer able to see short distances well and reading causes great problems. This in return, often results in headaches. Getting used to varifocals is often difficult and also increases the risk of accidents. Nowadays, there are various methods for treating this form of ametropia. Dr Kretz and his colleagues have been leaders in the correction of presbyopia for many years now. Above all, the selection of the individual lens plays a decisive role here. Only along these lines, everyday and leisure time demands can be satisfactorily corrected.

The Convenient and Central Location of the Clinic in North Rhine-Westphalia Enables Patients to Receive the Highest Quality Care Close to Home

It all started with an existing hospital, a medical center which was 40 years old. Together with a partner, Dr Kretz took over the facility after completing his training as a specialist. The two allies then expanded it into a network of clinics. It quickly became clear to Dr Kretz that individual and best possible patient care should be of first priority. His idea and the desire for innovative technology, optimal care, and continuous educational training served as decisive reasons for Dr Kretz and his wife Nicole Kretz to found the network of "Precise Vision Ophthalmologists" and to break away from the old structures.

The clinic network aims to provide each patient with the best possible treatment and the utmost level of commitment. This philosophy motivates Dr Kretz striving to achieve the best result for each of his patients on a daily basis. He is also able to facilitate additional benefits by regularly conducting clinical trials, in which patients - if their diagnosis is suitable - can participate in and therefore benefit from latest technical innovations and treatment options.

Social Engagement for a Brighter Future

In addition to his medical work, Dr Kretz is involved in various social projects worldwide. Together with a team, he travels to Cambodia once a year, where he provides on-side treatment and performs surgeries on patients who would otherwise have no access to medical care. His surgical team trains local nurses and Dr Kretz himself teaches local ophthalmologists the latest techniques and treatment options. The aim of his multiplier strategy is to convey knowledge to local doctors who in turn can pass it on to their colleagues.

Medical Research – Continuous Improvements for Patients

Research is essential for continuous improvements in modern medicine. Therefore, Dr Kretz is committed to developing new treatment strategies, researching new technologies and instructing young medical professionals.

The experience and knowledge of this renowned surgeon makes him a worldwide benchmark in the field of ophthalmology. In addition to his practical work as a doctor, Dr Kretz is also actively involved in current research and teaching activities. His main research focus is placed on the treatment of cataract, glaucoma, presbyopia, refractive surgery, and macular diseases. At his eye clinics, the ophthalmologist is involved in training young medical professionals and regular conduct in clinical trials for the European and American health authorities. In order to share his knowledge and his latest research results with others, he has already published over 100 announcements circulating in specialized press reports and maganzines.
