Information About the Field of Brachioplasty

What Is Upper Arm Lift?

Upper arm lift describes a surgery that removes excess flabby skin on the upper arms to create a picture of beautiful tight arms. It is an aesthetic plastic surgery procedure that has no medical necessity. Liposuctioncan also be carried out if the patient wishes.

For Whom Is Upper Arm Lift Advisable?

Many women find loose skin on the arms aesthetically unattractive and suffer in their self-esteem. So-called bingo wings "totter" when moving and make the arm appear particularly voluminous when the arms are held against the upper body. The sufferers are ashamed of their appearance and avoid wearing e.g., T-shirts or tops. Retrieving tight and slender arms can help these patients to find themselves more comfortable and beautiful overall.

Before the treatment, the patient's wishes should be discussed in detail with the doctor in charge. Besides, the doctor must clearly explain what results can be expected to prevent disappointment. The surgery is suitable for women with excess skin. However, if the volume of the upper arms should be reduced, liposuction is necessary, which can also be combined with a tightening, since often after liposuction, excess skin is created.

Which Methods Are Available?

In the standard form of skin tightening, the patient undergoes surgery under general anesthesia. Excess skin on the back and under the upper arm is removed. Then, a drainage tube is inserted, and the remaining skin edges are stitched together so that the upper arm is surrounded by a tight skin. Depending on prior consultation, fatty tissue on the upper arm can also be suctioned during the surgery. The patient should wear a compression bandage for one to three days after the surgery. After three to seven days, the drainage tube and stitches can be removed.

A new method is laser treatment, which avoids using a scalpel. Therefore, it is not a surgical procedure. During this treatment, laser light is directed at the upper arms. The advantage of this method is that there are no scars, and instead of being under general anesthesia, the patient is only in half-sleep.

How Much Does Upper Arm Lift Cost?

An upper arm lift is almost always a plain aesthetic procedure without medical necessity, which means that statutory health insurance companies do not cover the 3000-5000 Euro-bills. This sum includes the anesthesia, surgery, the subsequent stay in the hospital, and the medical aftercare. The costs are calculated individually according to the complexity of the process and are difficult to predict.

Upper Arm Lift Scars

Scars appear after every surgical procedure. The formation of these scars is almost impossible to prevent. However, the incisions can be chosen advantageously, so that scars appear in covered areas, such as in the armpits. Besides, the wounds are stitched together with special sutures after this procedure, which has a positive effect on the healing of the skin. Careful scar care after the surgery can also help to ensure that only fine, barely visible scars develop.

Which Doctors and Clinics Are Specialists in Upper Arm Lifting?

Patients can obtain individual advice on their desired surgery directly from specialists for plastic and aesthetic surgery without obligation. However, there is a charge for the consultation, regardless of whether or not surgery is required afterward. Costs of 50-200€ may be incurred, depending on the duration of the meeting.

Patients who need a doctor want the best medical care. Therefore, the patient is wondering where to find the best clinic. As this question cannot be answered objectively, and a reliable doctor would never claim to be the best one, we can only rely on the doctor’s experience.
