About The Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach and Heidelberg – Neurological Specialist and Rehabilitation Clinic
The family-run Kliniken Schmieder have been quality leaders in neurology and neurological rehabilitation in Germany since 1950. A total of 14,000 patients are rehabilitated at the Kliniken Schmieder every year.
The Kliniken Schmieder offer a holistic, interdisciplinary, and innovative treatment concept for patients with neurological diseases of all kinds and neurological rehabilitation across all phases (NRP-I to NRP-M).
The interdisciplinary team of doctors, therapists, nurses, and staff provides personalized care for each patient. The various neurological diseases and their respective manifestations can sometimes shake patients to the core and change their lives instantly. The motivating clinic motto, "Never give up," is intended to encourage patients and give them strength and confidence.
Clinic for Neurological Rehabilitation – Individual Treatment Plan
The Kliniken Schmieder start with each patient's admission with a personal evaluation that takes place for around two weeks to accompany the initial treatment. The interdisciplinary team of doctors, therapists, and nurses use various test and measurement procedures and the results to jointly decide on an individually adjusted treatment plan for each patient's rehabilitation.
The team's many years of experience, combined with a differentiated, empathetic view of each patient, are a decisive factor in giving even severely affected patients a chance of recovery and an active life.
Unique, 5-phase Neurology Rehabilitation Concept
Neurological rehabilitation at the Kliniken Schmieder comprises a five-stage phase model (phases NRP-I to NRP-M). Depending on the severity and duration of the patient's illness, dividing the patient into individual treatment phases is easier.
Acute Neurology (Phase A / NRP-I)
The first phase A, includes acute treatment following an accident or neurological event, such as a stroke, which may also require intensive medical treatment. The interdisciplinary team at the Kliniken Schmieder in Allensbach treats the entire spectrum of acute neurological illnesses with 24-hour admission availability and diagnostic imaging (CT/MRI). The range of acute treatment services also includes multimodal Parkinson's and epilepsy complex treatments.
Neurological Early Rehabilitation (Phase B / NRP-S)
Phase B follows immediately after acute treatment. Usually, patients in this phase still have severe neurological functional impairments and impaired consciousness. It is essential to begin the first individually adjusted rehabilitation measures for patients at this stage to restore lost body functions in movement and speech as quickly as possible.
Early Mobilization (Phase C / NRP-M)
In the third phase, which usually follows a hospital stay, patients are medically stable and can actively and independently participate in rehabilitation. The focus of treatment is on supporting everyday skills. At the same time, the rehabilitants continue to require medical support combined with a high level of nursing care.
Neurological Rehabilitation (Phase D+E / NRP-M)
Phase D follows the early mobilization phase. Patients have regained mainly their independence at this stage. In this phase, the focus is on developing social and mental skills and reintegrating into professional life.
Other Specialties of the Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach
Neuroradiology and Radiology at Lake Constance – Diagnosis and Therapy at the Highest Level
Under the medical direction of Prof. Stippich, neuroradiology and radiology focuses on imaging diagnostics and the treatments and therapies of diseases and changes to the patient's nervous system in the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and associated organ systems. Prof. Stippich's highly qualified team, equipped with the most up-to-date medical technology, takes the necessary time for each inpatient to carry out the individually demanding examinations. A comprehensive diagnosis follows this. All self-paying patients can also take advantage of these neuroradiology services within the framework of the available appointments. If required, Prof. Stippich is also available for a second opinion and a medical opinion.
Multimodal Parkinson's Complex Treatment
Parkinson's disease is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain that results in restricted mobility in patients and requires psychotherapeutic support. The Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach offer intensive, interdisciplinary Parkinson's complex treatment. An experienced team of doctors, therapists, and nurses creates a differentiated therapy program with a high frequency of therapy. It is individually adapted to the patient and constantly modified according to the course of the disease and its symptoms. This is supplemented by optimal medication for the patient. The period of multimodal Parkinson's complex treatment is usually limited to an intensive two to three-week hospital stay. Parkinson's complex treatment is also part of acute treatment (Phase A/NRP-I).
Epilepsy Complex Treatment – Individual Diagnosis and Therapy
The Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach offer inpatient complex treatment for difficult-to-treat epilepsies based on a combination of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. In addition to reducing the frequency and severity of seizures, the aim is to provide optimized, personalized, and specialized medication. Complex epilepsy treatment is also part of acute treatment (Phase A/NRP-I). Video EEG monitoring can also be arranged, as can a long-term EEG, which together lead to a better classification for differential diagnostic clarifications.
Center for Sleep Medicine in Allensbach – Specialists for Sleep Disorders

Patients can start their holistic, interdisciplinary, and innovative neurological rehabilitation treatment plan at Kliniken Schmieder immediately after receiving their personal diagnosis.
Innovative Brain Stimulation Center
The clinic's own Brain Stimulation Center offers an innovative, invasive, and non-invasive diagnosis and treatment option for patients in a coma and with impaired consciousness, such as after a traumatic brain injury.
Non-invasive treatment can increase the activity of nerve cells in the patient's brain through pharmacological, electrical, or magnetic stimulation. This effective treatment is accompanied by a detailed assessment, individual diagnostics, therapy planning, and regular monitoring of the patient's recovery process and progress.
