About Dr Erich Bielesch
Proctologist Dr Erich Bielesch is specialist in intestinal surgery. He is head of the Intestinal Centre and chief physician of the Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery at the Helios Clinic Munich West. Dr Bielesch and his team of experts specialize in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the digestive tract and minimally invasive abdominal surgery procedures. Whenever possible, operations are carried out using keyhole technology.
Another focal point is the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. In the Intestinal Centre of the Helios Clinic Munich West, cancer patients can rely on excellent clinical care with a human and personal approach.
Proctologist and Specialist in Intestinal Surgery in Munich
Dr Bielesch specializes in colorectal surgery. Having performed over 1000 intestinal operations, Dr Bielesch has extensive experience in colorectal and small bowel resection in cases of benign and malignant diseases. Whenever possible, the procedures are performed in a minimally invasive manner.
Focus on Minimally Invasive Abdominal Surgery
Minimally invasive visceral surgery describes all surgical procedures performed by laparoscopy. Instead of a large abdominal incision, the surgical tools are inserted through minimal incisions. This leads to faster healing, less pain and only minor scars. Dr Bielesch routinely performs endoscopic gallbladder, hernia and appendicitis operations. For other abdominal operations, an individual decision is always made as to whether minimally invasive abdominal surgery is the best option for the patient.
Head of the Intestinal Centre at the Helios Clinic Munich West
Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer in western industrialised countries. The best prospects for healing result from early diagnosis and complete removal of the tumour tissue. Therefore, colorectal cancer surgery is an important step in the treatment of colorectal tumours. Dr Bielesch has extensive experience in this field as Head of the Intestinal Centre He and his team hold tumour consultations with each patient, in order to determine the optimal interdisciplinary therapy for each respective stage of the disease.
The aim of the Intestinal Centre is to ensure optimal and guidance-appropriate diagnostics and treatment of patients with malignant diseases of the intestines and rectum. Patients are offered all the necessary care facilities, from early detection through to treatment and follow-up care.
In cooperation with research-oriented university hospitals, as well as high-performance care hospitals and practices, clinical trials ensure a rapid and efficient exchange of knowledge to the patients' benefit.
The German Cancer Society (DKG) has certified the Intestinal Centre at the Helios Clinic Munich West and attests that it provides high-quality treatment for patients with bowel cancer.
Liver Surgery and Treatment of Liver Metastases
As colorectal cancer is frequently detected only when it has already formed metastases, Dr Bielesch's therapeutic focus involves the operative removal of liver tumours and liver metastases. If possible, the metastases or new growths are completely removed, in order to improve the patient's life expectancy and chances of recovery.
If this is not possible, further treatment options are offered through chemotherapy, transarterial chemotherapy (TACE), portal vein embolisation and radiofrequency ablation, by means of cooperation with the gastroenterology, hepatology, oncology, radiology and radiation therapy departments. The goal is to greatly reduce the size of the liver tumours, in order to allow surgery at a later date.
The whole range of visceral surgery is covered
In addition to the surgical treatment of intestinal diseases, Dr Bielesch and his team offer the full range of services in visceral surgery. All operations of the abdomen and endocrine glands, for example thyroid gland surgery, are included. The focus is on tumour surgery on the stomach, the liver and the rectum. Routine operations of the gall bladder, inguinal hernias and appendicitis are also carried out with the utmost care.
