About Univ.-Prof. Dr Michael Zimpfer, M.B.A., FIPP

Univ.-Prof. Dr Michael Zimpfer is a minimally invasive & conservative pain therapy specialist and founder of the Center for Medicine and Health in Vienna.

Univ.-Prof. Dr Michael Zimpfer uses state-of-the-art therapies to treat patients with chronic pain, intending to improve the patient's quality of life. An individual therapy plan is created for each patient following a detailed diagnosis, and good overall care is ensured.

Pain Therapy Vienna: State-of-the-Art Medical Treatment for Acute and Chronic Pain

Acute pain protects against overstrain and injury and can also provide indications of the underlying disease, serving an important function as a warning signal. In addition to generally effective painkillers, targeted treatment of the cause, in particular, is crucial. Whether acute or chronic pain, the burden on sufferers is high, and everyday life and quality of life are often severely restricted.

The causes of pain are complex and can be physical and psychological. Comprehensive interdisciplinary pain management not only aims to eliminate the physical cause but also considers the accompanying circumstances. Prof. Zimpfer knows that therapy with classic analgesics is definitely not sufficient for chronic pain syndrome.

Finally Free of Pain Again: Targeted Treatment Using Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is often the first method of choice to achieve the goal of freedom from symptoms in chronic pain patients. An innovative form of therapy is available to patients through the latest generation of the K-Laser series at the Center for Medicine and Health. This medical laser has four wavelengths and an output of 15 watts, which can be used to treat acute and chronic pain and swelling, burns, and minor wounds.

Delivering laser energy to deep tissue layers stimulates targeted biostimulation in the affected region, inducing cell divisions necessary for healing the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skin. As a result, these tissues can be regenerated and repaired more effectively and quickly. Laser treatment stimulates the body's natural healing processes and promotes recovery.

Spinal Decompression: Therapy of Disk Diseases of the Cervical and Lumbar Spine Using SpineMed®

Spinal decompression is a non-invasive procedure used to treat damage to the intervertebral disks. Usually, the intervertebral disks are nourished by alternating axial tension and compression applied to the spine during upright walking. This positive stretching and compression of the spine can be simulated on a stretching device (SpineMed®) by well-dosed traction. This pressure relief allows fluid and nutrients to flow into the intervertebral disc, supporting its natural ability to regenerate.

Effective Pain Catheter Therapy in the Spinal Region

Spinal analgesia using peridural anesthesia is a potent option for treating chronic pain syndromes. It is usually irrelevant whether patients have already had spinal surgery. The pain-conducting nerves are anesthetized with drugs directly at the interface between the spinal cord and the peripheral nerve root, effectively interrupting pain transmission to the brain and, consequently, pain perception.

The catheter must be placed precisely into the so-called epidural space in an outpatient procedure to achieve this. Here, Prof. Dr Zimpfer, as a trained specialist in anesthesiology, benefits from his enormous experience in puncturing the spinal canal. In addition, an innovative imaging technique with the highest precision can accelerate catheter placement.

Spinal Endoscopy

Using highly developed video technology, it is now possible to view the immediate surroundings of the spinal cord with its outgoing nerve root and to search for inflammation sites. Finally, balloon dilatation can release adhesions, and ozone insufflation can remove the fluid. The procedure has also proven successful after open surgery on the spine.

Cold therapy Vienna: Renowned Specialist for Pain Treatment by Cryo-Analgesia

Prof. Dr Zimpfer is considered one of the pioneers in the field of cryo-analgesia. In cooperation with a medical product manufacturer, he developed an individual probe that can be guided to the affected nerve tracts in a catheter-based procedure under X-ray or ultrasound monitoring. The probe can apply an effective cold stimulus that blocks the frozen nerve pathways in the medium term at the target site. The procedure is preferably used for chronic pain syndromes in the spine or long-lasting pain symptoms in the extremities.

Many Years of Experience in Radiofrequency Therapy for Chronic Pain

Prof. Dr Zimpfer uses radiofrequency therapy with good empirical values to treat persistent pain as a further minimally invasive measure. In a catheter-based procedure, an electrode is placed on the nerve root that conducts pain. By applying an electric current, the nerve tissue is sclerosed for a more extended period, interrupting the transmission of the stimulus. This method is also carried out under constant control using imaging procedures to achieve the highest precision.

A special form of cooled, highly effective radiofrequency can be used to inactivate agonizing pain pathways.

Joint Preservation as Far as Possible - Stem Cell Therapy Instead of Artificial Joint Implantation

When suffering from knee, hip, or shoulder pain, the patients are often advised to undergo joint replacement. However, there is a minimally invasive method that makes joint replacement unnecessary or at least delays it for a long time. Stem cells can be isolated in one session and inserted into the affected joint using a completely painless bone marrow puncture. In this way, recovery is initiated. Since the regeneration of the joints takes time, the patient is pain-free by eliminating the relevant nerves.

Pain Therapist Vienna: Univ.-Prof. Dr Zimpfer Focuses on the Person

The experienced specialist for minimally invasive & conservative pain therapy founded the Center for Medicine and Health in Vienna as an essential medical contact point for all health issues.

The greater goal of these efforts is preventive intervention before disease states can manifest. If necessary, external specialists can be called in at any time so that renowned pain therapist patients in Vienna benefit from an extensive and experienced network of physicians from various specialties.

At the Vienna Medical Center, Prof. Zimpfer coordinates critical preventive services, chronic pain management, and perioperative care for his patients, thus offering individualized health advice from a single source.

Information About Vienna

Specialist doctors and medical centres in Vienna

The Austrian capital is located in the east of the country at the junction of the eastern Alpine foothills and the Pannonian Plain. Its namesake is the small river Wien, but the city is associated with the much larger Danube River that also flows by the city. Vienna is divided into so-called districts, so the old town is also the Inner District, around which the other 22 districts are arranged concentrically. In 2001 the historic city centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
