Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) – Radiation-Free Prostate Diagnostics

With mpMRI, or multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging or MR prostatography, aggressive prostate is detected and captured in over 94% of cases. This type of MRI is very precise, painless, and radiation-free, plus based on latest technology. The examination takes about 30 minutes and is carried out using a well-tolerated, free of any iodine contrast agent. This contrast agent is used to display the blood flow to the prostate and to assess the lymph nodes and neighbouring structures. This procedure is applied to precisely determine the extent and localization of any prostate tumour in order to prepare the tissue removal in advance and, above all, to perform the measure very focused and successfully. Falsely negative and repeated biopsies of the prostate tissue can thus be avoided. Dr Röthke is also able to implement mpMRI examinations for diagnosing recurrences as well as to simply provide a second opinion ahead of a planned incision, in addition to support a therapy preparation process. With mpMRI, overtreatment of clinically irrelevant tumours can be avoided and tumours can be actively monitored instead (active surveillance).

Tumour Diagnostics – Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is a malignant tumour occuring in men between the ages of 20 and 40. Early diagnosis with staging and tumor treatment is crucial for a therapy to be successful. For follow-up care of testicular cancer, Dr Röthke relies on magnetic resonance imaging to avoid radiation exposure due to repeated computed tomography in his mostly very young patients.

Bone Cancer – Diagnostics and Testing

If bone cancer is suspected, Dr Röthke uses different imaging procedures. Bone tumours exhibit a certain pattern in the bone when they are irradiated. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography are used to visualize bone cancer. The main purpose of an MRI is to determine a tumor’s position and size and to delimit it from neighbouring structures. Dr Röthke uses chest CTs to diagnose metastases in the lungs.

Diagnostics of Internal Organs

In case of suspicion of liver cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver metastases, important testing steps are initiated. In addition to blood tests, the radiology department uses MRIs or CT scans of the abdomen. Using latest, innovative technology, Dr Röthke diagnoses diseases of the abdominal organs such as pancreas or liver.
